Samsung Merges Rugged and Classic Aesthetics in Galaxy Watch 9 and Ultra 2 Design Leaks
Samsung is preparing a radical strategy shift for its upcoming wearable portfolio ahead of the rumored July Unpacked event in London.
A newly leaked high-quality render reveals that the tech giant is completely altering how it segments its best smartwatch lineup.
Instead of maintaining separate tracks for rugged athletes and traditional business professionals, Samsung is consolidating its design language.
The change aims to address long-standing comfort concerns while limiting color options across different case sizes, a decision that could shape buyer preferences this summer.
The Classic rotating aesthetic replaces the mechanical bezel
According to a detailed analysis from Mashable, the biggest design change coming to the premium Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is a blend of rugged styling and familiar Classic-inspired elements.
Leaked press renders suggest Samsung is skipping a dedicated Watch 9 Classic, which was expected to come with the Raise-to-talk feature this year.Â
Instead, the company appears to have brought the Classic line’s signature 1-to-12 numbered dial to a boxier “squircle” design with slimmer bezels.
While fans of the Classic series may miss the tactile feel of a physical rotating bezel, the numbered dial preserves much of the traditional look, giving the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 a distinctive premium design that combines elements of both product lines.
Size choices will strictly dictate your casing color options
Meanwhile, a report from Android Authority highlights an unexpected limitation in Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 9 lineup.
Regulatory filings and database listings suggest the company is linking certain color options to specific case sizes, giving buyers fewer customization choices than they might expect.
Those opting for the smaller 40mm model will have access to an exclusive Cream finish alongside the standard Graphite option.
Buyers who prefer the larger 44mm version, however, will miss out on the Cream color entirely and will instead have to choose between a distinctive Silver finish and Graphite. The approach means a buyer’s preferred size could ultimately determine which colors are available.
Redesigned buttons and heavy bands reduce original design fatigue
The final part of Samsung’s leaked refresh appears to focus on refining some of the physical design choices that drew criticism on earlier premium models.
As Android Authority notes, the central orange Quick button on the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 has been redesigned, replacing the bold solid-orange block with a more understated orange accent ring around a wider, more integrated button.
Accessory leaks also point to a significantly expanded strap lineup.
The new collection is expected to include ridge-concave Sport Bands, leather-rubber Hybrid straps, and a durable Marine Band offered in deep orange, black, and forest green, giving users a broader range of styles and use cases.
This proves that Samsung wants to avoid durability mishaps like the reports about a scuba diver who found a Pixel Watch 5 in the Ocean.
