Google Drops a Surprise Android 17 Beta 4.1, Five Bug Fixes Before Stable
Google said Beta 4 would be the last scheduled beta before Android 17 went stable. Then it dropped Beta 4.1 anyway.
The surprise minor update landed for all supported Pixel devices, build CP21.260330.011, arriving with no new features and a very clear purpose: clean up five bugs that should not follow Android 17 into its stable release.
It is rolling out over the air to Pixel devices enrolled in the Android Beta Program, covering the Pixel 6 through Pixel 10 series and Pixel Tablet. The Pixel 10a is notably absent from the rollout without explanation.
Five Fixes, All Worth Knowing
The five confirmed fixes in Android 17 Beta 4.1, as published in Google’s official release notes, are:
- Zero signal bars in the status bar: Despite a healthy cellular connection, the status bar incorrectly showed empty signal bars, making it difficult for users to accurately gauge signal strength before calls or in new locations.
- Mobile data Quick Settings icon staying active in Airplane mode: After Airplane mode was enabled, the mobile data toggle remained highlighted as if data were still active, a UI synchronization issue that misrepresented the device’s actual state.
- External display blackout at high resolutions: Pixel devices connected to external monitors via USB-C could go black when higher display resolutions were selected, disrupting desktop-style productivity setups.
- Bluetooth audio silence after system interruptions: Timer alerts and other system sounds could completely stop Bluetooth audio playback instead of allowing it to resume afterward due to an audio routing bug.
- Hearing aid disconnection bug: Paired hearing aids could disconnect unexpectedly, an accessibility-critical issue with significant real-world impact.
Where Android 17 Stable Stands
As Android Authority’s Android 17 tracker confirms, stable Android 17 is expected in June 2026, aligning with Google’s historical Q2 stable release pattern, following Android 16’s stable launch on June 10, 2025.
Beta 4.1 arriving as an unscheduled point release is consistent with how Google handled minor fixes during the Android 17 QPR1 cycle earlier this year; quick, targeted, and pushed without ceremony when bugs clear the bar for immediate action.
The hearing aid fix in particular signals Google is not waiting for a full stable drop to resolve issues that affect users’ daily functioning.
If you are already enrolled in the Android Beta Program, the OTA should appear automatically at Settings > System > Software updates.
Manual installation via the Android Flash Tool using build CP21.260330.011 is also available for those who prefer it. The stable release is now close enough that this Beta 4.1 may be the last build most testers see before Android 17 ships publicly.
